Heya. There is nothing like a week off to get you working is…

There is nothing like a week off to get you working is there? (Sarcasm? Moi? You must be thinking of some other fishtank) I now have to catch up with a week of Uni work I havn’t done. Instead, I finally got the Aquarionics design up, including the Pumpkin. And the whole new Webmail system.

I even got taken up on an offer to host a mailinglist, so Aquarionics is now home to the infamous Ian Bostridge pages and mailinglist. So I set that up. I also have several things to write for Play and, of course, I’ve got to complete Planescape: Torment as soon as possible. Does this sound like work to you? No? it isn’t.

In other news (And I really should stop saying that, it’s rapidly becoming a catchphrase) my good friend Arissa is, as I type, winging her merry way to Sunny England across the atlantic, despite major problems when her plane made an emergancy landing. Lucky it did before it started across the Atlantic, really.

And I resigned from the Scifi Soc. Because, dispite it being a fantastic job that I would love to do, I am totally and utterly crap at it. Due to not being able to organise a celebration in a beer-factory. *sigh*

Plus, since I am nearly caught up on a months worth of Gossip since I went offline, I may even get time to put my webrings back on. (Really inconsiderate of Yahoo to totally screw up the entire Webring system a week before I go to Uni, but I digress).

So Wander, Read the stories, the reviews, the back-issues. Marvel at the speed of the new design. Cry when you hit 404 errors, and, whatever you do Tell me what you think!

Catch Y’all later.

That really lasted, didn't it? *sigh* I really can't do…

That really lasted, didn’t it?

I really can’t do anything right at the moment. I have screwed up almost everything I have touched in the last month, Aquarionics included.

This week I have had off of Uni, which gave me a bit of time to sit back and reflect on stuff. Aquarionics included. As I said below, I’m not going to do anything fancy until get to a point where updateing this daily is something I can do. This means that every other project (Except one, and I’ll explain that in an instant) has been put on hold. Worlds Apart I have Ended, Rainbow’s Web is uploaded as it is, S2 is dead, as is Project ANN, Play is up, but only as an archive of all the old stuff (It’s here, but beware, it isn’t finished. Not by a long chalk).

So, These are the aims:

1: To get Aquarionics Daily again. And Good.

2: To finish the Suds (Sunderland Uni Drama Soc) page

3: To get out of Sunderland, but that’s another thing entirely

This is a public apology.

Since it is going out on an international web site, viewed by literally thousands of people around the globe (I wish) I couldn’t really make it more public without syndication. So here we go:

I seem to have fucked up quite badly

For starters, the entire debacle over the web site. How I could have screwed up the HTML badly enough for netscape to reject it totally I’m not quite sure. Secondly, the only updates recently have been apologies for the lack of updates to the web site. This isn’t good enough. If I want people to be here, I have to have things for them to look at. I can’t even say there is something “in the works” this time because there patently isn’t. The closest thing to completion is my CCDE Photos page which will be announced as soon as I finish uploading it.

Over the past six months I have had several fantastic ideas for putting Aquarionics in real hits. They have included a Universal Annotations System, an Online Comic (Was S2), a Parallel Universe (Project ANN), a Gaming site (play), and a whole host of others. Each of the above got designed (I have web site designs for each and every one of them), basic structures, updating systems. Even (in one case) the first three months of a story arc. But I totally and completely failed to get anything actually written at all.

Then I had the bright idea. I would move everything to a brand new format. It would be called “Nicks Notes” and would contain everything. It would be database driven, it would have everything Aquarionics used to have but updated daily, and it would… it would…

I got it designed, both on paper and PSP, before I stopped and thought about it.

I would have to learn PHP3, Perl and SQL; I would have to pay for a database to be hosted. And I would, once again, design it all, move everything to the new format and then… I would stop again. And this cycle could take months, in which Aquarionics would flounder as I tried to do too much. So here is the deal:

I am, as far as I can possibly do so, go back to decent daily updates. As of today I have my home computer connected again too and this will be easier. Once I have managed to do daily updates I will start on pulling the rest back together. Updating the Linux section (I spend half my computer-time in it now, the site shouldn’t really still say it’s uninstalled :-), the Games section (I have 6-month old reviews still to be posted), and finish the CV and Bio. Once I have all this consistently updated I will finish the new design and upload it all again.

Aquarionics. Bigger, Better, and more updated then ever before Will Return. See you then.

Argh, Nasty Netscape. I’m sure that the original version of this design worked in Netscape. That means little, because something I have done in the meantime has stopped it doing so. This means that my new project has gone into overdrive as I move everything across to it so I can get working on a new design for this that actually works.

And thusly and verily was the empire forged. Upon the virtues of trust, reality and daily

Semi-daily updates.

Today was one of those days you feel like the world is on your side. Last night I went out to

see Blood Brothers with SUDS

(University Drama Soc), and we went from there to DV8, a night of cheesy music at the Student

Nightclub. and that was, above all, *fun*. And, horror upon horrors, I wasn’t drinking. Well,

much. I had a couple of pints before the show, and one after, but once we got to the night-club I

decided to stop.

This doesn’t normally happen.

And so, I woke up at 8:00 this morning. Happy, smiley, and ready for the world to do it’s

worst, only to discover that it hasn’t. I had my first Software Engineering Lecture, and came to

the same conclusion about my lecturer as the rest of my group (The woman is a patronising,

irritating person who would be better teaching primary school children, but gets over that by

talking to us as if we were). Followed by an exam worth 16% of my final mark for that topic (And

remember I have only been back two weeks) in which I finished 35 minutes early (Of a 50 minute

This does normally happen.

And now I’m debating going home for the weekend, to sort out my life ready for them to ship

the rest of it up here.

On top of this, the new section is well underway, and I even have some of it written

before I start the graphic design.

Beyond that, the entire new section remains a secret.

So did you hear the story of the Johnstone twins?
As like each other as two new pins
Of one womb, born on the selfsame day
How one was kept and one given away

So, Blood Brothers then. That was absolutely bloody quantastic. So completely and totally

compelling brilliant that it brought quite a few of my fellow theatregoers to tears. The sets

were wonderful, The movements and dances and songs were so fantastically apt, well timed, and

perfectly choreographed that the entire production flowed along fantastically, taking the

audience though the plot, and the lives themselves, of the Blood Brothers, Mickey and Eddy. Words

cannot express how much I currently think of this production. I suggest you find a production,

and watch it. If it’s half as good as the musical I saw last night, you will enjoy it immensely.

The one thing I didn’t expect when I left my flat ten minutes ago was Hailstones. Hailstones hurt. Muchly.

Apart from that, Dull day really.

I’m going to see Blood Brothers with the Drama Soc tonight. Should be fun
