Dark Light

So, we replaced my desktop machine at work with a laptop. In this case, a P3, 512mb, Radeon, WinXP laptop. It’s nice. It runs Warcraft.

I use the SSH Tunnel Client from Delight which is an interface to Putty, basically, that lets you set up and manage SSH tunnels easily. More usefully, it allows you to group tunnels together, so I have a series grouped as “From Home” and “From Work” that set up IRC, IMAP & CVS in such a way that my laptop doesn’t care where it is. (The Delight website is in furrin, but the software isn’t)

The Firefox Bookmarks Syncroniser keeps my FireFox Bookmarks synced between the laptop and the home desktop.

I wish I could do the same with my FireFox & Thunderbird profiles, but I can’t yet

It duel boots into Debian occasionally, but not often. This is mostly because I’m a windows developer at the moment. The system runs WAMP (Windows/Apache/MySQL/PHP), so I can do all my development work without touching the dev server (Not always a good thing, since the dev server is one major revision of PHP and a few minor revisions of MySQL behind the laptop).

Things that annoy me about it include iTunes. I like iTunes lots, but I can’t tell it that I have three media libraries. One on the Laptop, one that’s available when connected to water.gkhs, and one that’s available only for internal.browserangel. That would be useful. Not as useful as being able to remove duplicates from the media library (which there are huge numbers of tools to do, all written in AppleScript), but useful all the same.

Been playing the Evil Genius demo, made by the one of the original designers of Theme Park and in the same mold as that and Dungeon Keeper. It’s Great.

Also – and you may be able to tell this – been playing Transport Tycoon Deluxe again. I found the CD, then discovered it was quicker to download it from eDonkey (Where it has a Magic Patch that makes it work with XP) than get it working straight. Yay Internet.

The reason for this nostalgia was that Chris Sawyer is releasing the sequel to TTDX – Locomotion – in about a week, and it looks really quite nice. It’s far from the only game I want that’s coming out soon, which means this month will have to be one of Will Power and Determination
