The Creation Museum
Thursday, November 15th, 2007The Internet’s John Scalzi got his readers to sponsor a visit to the Creation Museum, he does it so we don’t have to.
He has released a photoset of 555 images of this journey though brain-explody-land, and a full writeup
It starts like this:
Imagine, if you will, a load of horseshit. And we’re not talking just your average load of horseshit; no, we’re talking colossal load of horsehit. An epic load of horseshit. The kind of load of horseshit that has accreted over decades and has developed its own sort of ecosystem, from the flyblown chunks at the perimeter, down into the heated and decomposing center, generating explosive levels of methane as bacteria feast merrily on vintage, liquified crap. This is a Herculean load of horseshit, friends, the likes of which has not been seen since the days of Augeas.
Addicted to game
Monday, November 12th, 2007[On Paintball as addiction therapy:] “These [addicted] gamers just destroy them. We have the kids that are chemically dependent, and we have the gamers, and we put them in two teams. And at the end of the game, the chemically dependent kids – they end up looking like Rembrandt.”
John Walker’s essay on computer games addiction is up on Rock, Paper, Shotgun.
More Portal
Sunday, November 4th, 2007Contary to what this month’s header might indicate, I’m not entirely obsessed by Valve’s “Portal”, except it’s really good and you should play it.
James/Pentadact/Tom, who writes for PC Gamer when he’s not being multinonymous, has put together a selection of the best user-generated portal maps which are, for a limited time only, all on his site as a zip file. I’ve just finished “Station1” from that list, which took me ages – it’s harder than the Advanced maps that come with the game, and looks like it’ll keep you going with more portal goodness for a while.
